HBO Wins Rights to Obama Documentary

HBO Network has purchased the rights to a behind-the-scenes documentary on Obama’s presidential campaign from the production company headed by actor Edward Norton.

Filming will continue until the inauguration in January with a projected premiere sometime next spring, according to the network. HBO reportedly paid approximately $1 million to release the film, which does not yet have a title.

HBO said Director Amy Rice, working for Norton’s Class 5 Films, had contacted Obama about a potential documentary even before he decided to run for president.

When Obama started his campaign and it became a success, Rice and fellow director Alicia Sams found themselves in the right place at the right time.

The filmakers have spent an enormous amount time and gained personal access to the candidate, the Obama family, friends and campaign volunteers over the past 2 1/2 years, according to the network.
